Emotional Wellness During COVID-19

If you’re experiencing stress, anxiety, or depression right now, we can help.

These are challenging times for many people in the US and around the world. From feelings of isolation and losing family members to having to complete all your courses online, you may be feeling a flood of emotions, from depression, anxiety to PTSD.

Our physician Dr. Stacy Hausmann at North Woodmere Medical Care in Valley Stream, NY, wants to provide you and your family with the support needed for your emotional and physical wellbeing, even during these unprecedented times.

Turn to Others for Support

Even though we are all staying in and avoiding crowds, this doesn’t mean that we can’t still stay in touch with family and friends, even virtually. There are so many video applications these days that make it possible for us to stay connected with loved ones, no matter how near or far they are. Prioritize time with others through Facetime, Skype, or WhatsApp. Technology has made it easier than ever before to schedule a chat with loved ones across the globe. You may not be able to see your classmates every day at school, but it's important to schedule "online play dates" with your buddies.

Give Yourself an Internet Break

We all understand how important it is to stay informed about the virus, as well as the vaccine. However, consuming a lot of news can only fuel the fire of anxiety. It’s important that you take breaks from the Internet and your phone, and use that time to do something for yourself, whether that’s taking that yoga class online or reading a book for fun. Limit your news watching to a short chunk of time, so you’re not inundated with it all day long, and don’t even think about social-media scrolling at night or before bed!

Get Active and Eat Healthy

It’s important that you also focus on your physical health, which in turn can support good mental health. Making sure that you are fueling your body with healthy foods, getting regular physical activity, even a brisk walk around the neighborhood, and getting quality sleep are important for reducing stress and anxiety and combating depression. Exercise can help to combat stress and anxiety and boost energy so that you're ready to tackle your day.
